Jim Lynch & Jim Lynch Hummer gets a standing ovation for the use of their beautiful dealership.  Omar Phelps and Jim Lynch were so supportive.  And they have signed on to be one of the new PDX Program Sponosrs for 2010.  New Hummers are their way to the dealership now so if you need a vehicle consider a Hummer from Jim and his crew. If they treat you like they did yesterday you will be impressed with thie outstanding customer service.

Personally, I'm ready for spring right now! Wishing won't make it happen, so we have to do the next best thing and that's just to get together and discuss what's coming at you for 2010 from the St. Louis PDX Committee and to give you more technical help and advanced training along with some food and drink like we did last year. Sept. 15, 2009
The St. Louis Region's PDX committee had another great year in 2009, finishing it's 6th event of the year with another "SOLD OUT" PDX! The events this season included
2 full day Saturday events and 4 Wednesday afternoon half day events.
On August 29th they held the grand finale of the 2009 Takata PDX Series as presented by Solo Performance Specialties with their final full day event with a maximum of
full day customers, "Hyper-Drive" single session customers, "Ride-Alongs" customers and over 130 spectators. It was the perfect "Make it Easy, Make it Fun" SCCA Event.

Innovation, excellent customer service, top notch instructors, great sponsors and a fabulous committee have been the keys to making this already successful program better each year. The St. Louis PDX committee focuses exclusively on the entry level PDX
portion of the Time Trials program to bring in new participants and members and keep repeat customers coming back for more.
They have gotten good "traction" from two new minor variations to get new customers introduced to the program without committing to a full day. Their one session "Hyper-Drives" give customers the same classroom training as the full day customers as well as an instructor to ride along with them for personal instruction during their single twenty minute session on-track experience. Once they try it, most are ready to sign up for the next event
to get a full events worth of driving. The "Ride-Along" is another new idea for those who came out to see what all the excitement was about, but just aren't sure and want a smaller sampling. This is where the customer rides along as a passenger in one of the instructor's cars for a 20 minute session to get an experience of what road course driving is all about.
"Our instructors are our most valuable asset" says Chief Instructor Ed Settle. "We are fortunate to have over 30 well trained instructors and half of them are either Club Racers or ex-racers, and all are trained in providing excellent customer service, teaching vehicle dynamics, and high performance driving." The training model that was developed for the St. Louis Instructors was based on aviations FAA training that teaches how to best interact with a student to assure the best communication for the maximum learning experience possible.  The instructors experience totals over 100 years of track driving that is available for the customer.

The PDX on the 29th of August had picture perfect weather and plenty of beautiful sports cars of all makes, models, and ages. Committee Chairman, Chuck DeProw, was very pleased with the turnout on the 29th and the season overall, saying "In these difficult economic times, to be successful, we have to provide exceptional customer service and make certain the customer has a quality experience that they will tell others about and want to repeat themselves. Our sponsors help to keep our costs in line and we really appreciate their loyalty, so we give them as much exposure as possible."
Sponsors for the 2009 season. Takata Racing Products and Solo Performance Specialties are the title sponsors of the series and AutoTire of Chesterfield, Izzy's Custom Cages, McDonough-Whitlow P.C. and Photomotiononline were the other sponsors.  Dave Whitworth of Solo Performance Specialties said "The St. Louis PDX Program Manager, Chuck DeProw worked very hard to communicate with SPS to assure our expectations were being met in this sponsorship agreement.  It made SPS feel like our investment in the program was valued. They deserve all the success they have experienced."  There have been several more inquiries from companies wanting to discuss possible sponsorship for the 2010 season already.  Scott Rhea, owner of Izzy's Custom Cages completed their year long contest by awarding a free custom cage to the winner of the drawing of to instructor Ali Promaroli.  Gateway International Raceway was a partner in the success with the Wednesday Evening events.
At the end of the Grand Finale Event there was a social get together for everyone to celebrate another safe and fun event as well as thanks and appreciation to all those who volunteer to make the 2009 season another successful season for the St. Louis Region PDX Program. Drawings were held throughout the season for $50 gifts cards to instructors as tokens of appreciation for their work on the program and the winners of the 2 that were given at the August event were Tim Finley and Ken Brinton.
Event officials were; Chuck DeProw, Chairman, Ed Smith, Chief Steward, Ed Settle, Chief Instructor, Registrar and Treasurer, Carla Russo, Chief of Safety, Janice Rick, Starter, Lynn Wilson, Chief of Tech, Steve Kleeschulte, and classroom instructors, Bruce Stephens and Tom Templeman.
As a final note, there were already several customers already asking for registration to open up as soon as possible for 2010 St. Louis PDX events, as they want to sign up now to lock in their spots before they all sell out!

SCCA – HPDE Insurance Program

SCCA is pleased to announce a program that is now available for our PDX program that will help to attract new PDX participants and keep existing participants involved in these events.  The HPDE Insurance Program, administered by Lockton Risk Services, has approved our PDX program due to the high level of safety and structure at these events!

Most enthusiasts are aware that standard auto policies previously excluded coverage for “timed or competition events.”  Starting in 2004, many insurers changed these exclusions to eliminate coverage “on a surface used for racing”, “at a racetrack facility”, or “at a performance driving event.”  Encourage your participants to make an informed decision.  A quick review of the exclusions section of their auto policy will typically reveal any language that might exclude coverage while driving on a racetrack.

The HPDE Insurance Program was launched in June of 2008 to meet the needs of enthusiasts involved in non-competitive and educational track events.  Policies are sold on a single-event basis and the rates are very affordable.  Since the program’s launch, over 1,000 enthusiasts have used this service to cover physical damage to their vehicles while participating in non-competitive track events.  The premium is based on stated value for a vehicle, and participants are given the opportunity to insure modifications they have made to their vehicle.  The leading force at Lockton behind this program is a SCCA Club Racer and driving instructor, so this is truly a program that was designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts.

These policies are purchased exclusively through the HPDE Insurance Program website (http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com) in a matter of minutes.  Single-event coverage for a $20,000 vehicle can be acquired for as little as $124!  This product presents SCCA Regions with a tremendous opportunity to attract new drivers by eliminating one of the most common obstacles that affects drivers considering this hobby – lack of insurance coverage while driving on track.  When you receive inquiries about insurance coverage on track, now you have a source that will help you turn an inquiry into a PDX registration!

The majority of details about the HPDE Insurance Program can be found on their website (http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com), but feel free to call the office at 866-582-4957 or e-mail at hpdeins@locktonaffinity.com to learn more about this program.  If your event isn’t listed on the “Apply Online” page of the HPDE Insurance Program, please inform the HPDE Insurance Program and they will get your event added quickly.

May 15, 2009 Note ******  To all:

Due to severe weather conditions and the possibility of lightening being forecasted for the St. Louis Bi-State Area, Gateway Raceway and the St. Louis Region SCCA PDX program have decided to postpone the PDX event scheduled for this afternoon,  May 13, 2009.  We are making this decision in the interest of safety for drivers, course workers, instructors and organizers. All entries for today's event will be moved to the Wednesday, June 10, 2009 event.   We will move your entry to the June 10, 2009 event for you.  If this is a problem please contact our registrar, Carla Russo.  We will try to schedule another afternoon event in August once we can work out a date. We regret this, but with the storms predicted we feel it is better to be safe than sorry.

Chuck, thank the entire PDX crew for a wonderful time!  Now I think every corner worker should be required to do a PDX before being qualified to work a corner, as well as every driver should work a corner to be qualified to drive.  I also semi-retract my statement about several workers could be rewarded by doing 2 sessions each for their effort.  You lose continuity which is pretty darn important, as I've discovered!  You never get enough practice, and you never quite get that turn "just like you wanted to do it".  In short, I need more track time!  This is a dangerous thing, converting workers into track participants, you soon have nobody on the other side of the wall. :-)"

Sept. 23, 2008 ***** The PDX committee decided that there just isn't going to be enough daylight to give everyone enough time on track to do this event well.  We had to give up the date of 10/14 and could not find one we all could make earlier or around it, and 10/21 puts sunset just around 6PM. That is just to little time and starting earlier than 3PM is a problem for many of us.  So we are going to postpone/cancel this event until next year.

So we are going to cancel your entry and refund your payment for now (we would not want to hold your money until 2009)and we will work on this event for next year. Oct. 19, 2006 is our full day event and most of you are already entered but if not - we would love to have you and there will be plenty of light for lots of seat time all day!! ........................The STL PDX Committee

When it is rescheduled it will be announced on this website and communicated by email and on the St. Louis Region Forum.  All May 7 entrants will be automatically entered in the rescheduled event.
The STL PDX Program wishes to thank GIR and their staff for opportunity to be working with them on this Wed. Night PDX Program.

Oct. 25, 2008 ***** The 2009 season dates are being worked on now and we will be announcing them and opening up regsitrattion as soon as we can for them.  New for next year.  We will workiing on keeping costs down, to try to hold down entry fees. We are also working on the descriptions of Novice, Intermediate and Advanced for registration. This will allow us to place entrants in the correct groups and use our instructors best. We are working on the PDX Plus for Advanced drivers only  for 2009 too.  The Instructors Progam has been a huge success and we are working on a program for our wonderful SCCA Competition drivers to allow them to understand what we need quickly and easily so more of them can join us as instructors.  We also will be holding a class in the spring for drivers, who have at least some track experience and want to become instructors.  The Wednesday night program has been a huge success for the St. Louis PDX Program and Gateway Raceway and plans for that to  continue for 2009 are in progress now.  Our teamwork with Gateway has been a great experience for us and the entrants to the PDX events.  We have brought many new faces to Gateway and new Check back here often for more news!  Please support our sponsors as they support you and your fun too!Oct. 20, 2008 ***** So how do we thnak all of the great people who have entered, sponsored, worked, or instructed for the PDX Program for 2008?
